Different Types of Internet Marketing

Internet is considered as one of the greatest inventions of the last century. Internet marketing or online marketing or e-marketing, is the marketing and promotion of products or services over the Internet. It is one of the best methods to stay in touch with your customers and increase traffic of your website. Internet marketing has nine different types and it is broadly divided in to the following types:
  1. Search Engine Optimization(SEO) - It is the process of improving website's or web page's visibility in search engine result pages using organic or natural or un-paid search results. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search etc.
    SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query. SEO thus helps you get traffic from search engines. All major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing have such results.
  2. Search engine marketing (SEM): SEM is a form of marketing that tries to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs) with the help of either paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid marketing, or using free search engine optimization techniques.
  3. Social media marketing(SMM) – Social Media marketing is the process of gaining attention or traffic through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
    Social media marketing programs usually center on efforts to create content that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social networks. Social media has become a platform that is easily accessible to anyone with internet access and it allows individuals to interact with one another and build relationships. It is the best place for companies for brand promotion.
  4. Display advertising: The use of web banners or banner ads placed on a third-party website or blog to drive traffic to a company's own website and increase product awareness is called Display advertising. It is a type of online advertising that comes in several forms, including banner ads, rich media and more.
  5. Email marketing: It is an easy, effective, and affordable way of directly marketing a commercial message to a group of people using electronic mail. Email marketing helps you to stay in regular touch with your customers with the help attractive and professionals mails, newsletters, product related messages etc.
  6. Referral marketing: a method of promoting products or services to new customers through referrals, usually word of mouth. Referral marketing is an age-old marketing technique used for promoting products or services through referrals and word-of-mouth. Which is increasingly becoming a preferred and profitable means for businesses to grow their sales.
  7. Affiliate marketing: a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's own marketing efforts. Or Affiliate Marketing is promoting other people’s (Company’s) product and earning a commision in return (If a sale is made).
  8. Inbound marketing: involves creating and freely sharing informative content as a means of converting prospects into customers and customers into repeat buyers.
  9. Video marketing: This type of marketing specializes in creating videos that engage the viewer into a buying state by presenting information in video form and guiding them to a product or service. Online video is increasingly becoming more popular among internet users and companies are seeing it as a viable method of attracting customers.
